Today's Inspiration

Over the weekend, I did one of the hardest tasks I've had to do in a while. For the past 7 months, I dedicated myself to being with this one specifc guy who I thought was heaven sent to me. I won't bad mouth him or try to down play him because to his family, friends, and basketball he was very committed. He even believed in the Lord and went to church but when it came to being in a relationship the balance of everything just wasn't there. So Saturday, I walked away and have had a fist full of tears ever since. I decided to blog to kind of get my minds off of things when I ran across this

Follow your heart, but be quiet for a while first.
Ask questions, then feel the answer.
Learn to trust your heart.

For some reason that I can't put into words, these simple words made my gloomy day much brighter...

Funky, Fresh, Hair-dressed to Impress

Lately I've been trying to do a few protective styles to help me battle my hair-touching disease. I have the habit of playing in my coils, twisting them around my finger, feeling the textures, and even randomly pulling them to check the length... DAMAGE-RAMA! So I've been searching the web to see what unique-ness I can come up with. Here's a few that caught my eye, while the others were more inspirtational... ENJOY!
You can add a little funkiness to day old twist-outs

The first style I plan to try

TOTAL HAIR INSPIRATION! I can't wait to rock fully BIG hair!

To Pre-Poo or not Pre-Poo???

For the past couple of months I've been doing research on this whole pre-pooing theory. I had a few hours free on Sunday and decided to give it a try. Then it hit me... I couldn't find the recipe I had and wasn't sure if I had all the ingredients I needed so I searched online for some simple yet beneficial recipes. After about 15 minutes of searching I came to the conclusion that all you really need is some moisturizing conditioner, EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), and an egg if you want to add some extra protein, some sort of hair milk for extra moisture, honey, or oils. The only things I had laying around were EVOO, Herbal Essences Colored Treated Conditioner, and Carol Daughter's Hair Milk.
I totally do not like sitting under hair dryers as if you can't tell by my face lol!
I put the conditioner on first, EVOO next, hair milk last, put a plastic bag on my head, and sat under the hair dryer for 20 minutes. My hair felt really soft and moisturized afterwards but the real conclusion would come from the aftermath of styling. SO I washed and detangled my hair as normal. I put a few loose twists in the front with 2 strand twists in the back.

CONCLUSION:
My hair feels soft and healthy as it usually does so I can't really say if the pre-poo process is needed for sure. It was my first time trying it as I said so maybe I'll have to do it a time or two to see if it's truly beneficial for me personally. You know sort of like deep conditioners... you know in the long run they're healthy but you don't necessarily know how beneficial they'll be on the day you do it? I do know next time I am going to use EVOO, conditioner, an egg, and honey...oh and maybe an extra oil if I have some laying around. I keep you guys updated on that though....

Fingers Crossed and Prayed Up!

Last  week was... CRAZY! I found out that regardless of how old some women get, they are still bitter and intentions are to ruin your good name and spread rumors about you. YES! This 50-something year old woman did this to me last monday and right before I went on vacation. It's odd that some people will try to steal your happiness instead of joining the moment.

ANYWHO! Many of my friends and family are probably tired to death of hearing me rant on about how dreadful my job is and how I'm dying for a raise but I'm grateful to be blessed with some form of income. For the past couple of months I've been applying for jobs in my hometown because I'm a family girl and feel slightly lonely in this small town known as Chattanooga. I miss my fam soooooomuch!! Also I had to get a new car so I figured if I move home, that would cut some of my expenses a bit. But unfortunately the jobs I applied for at home all denied me. After all the drama-rama at my job the week of my vacation finally came!!! While shopping in Miami, this man called me offering me a job at a hospital working with disturbed children. The job isn't in my hometown but I want to become a nurse and work with children so I was SUPER excited when I got the call. The guy is an Alum from my school and had almost the same major as me and we had alot in common. He was very understanding about me being on vacation and told me to call him once I came back. I'm praying I get this job b/c it would be so much closer to what I really want to do and I would be making more money= happier me. We'll see how things go :)

Naturally Surprised

Today like most days I am like a walking zombie at work. You'd think by now I'd be used to getting up early for work but the time change has my body and mind miscommunicating. Since it's pay day I decided to "splurge" a little and go to this coffee shop up the street from my job. The workers were super, SUPER nice, funny, and very helpful. I was a first timer so they made sure I was satisfied with my order. I finally decided to get the Honey Ginseng Green Tea since I'm going for healthier choices. I must say this tea is THE BOMB.COM and it's alot cheaper than the university center coffee shop. There was also this girl there that complimented me on my hair as I was walking in. She was GORGEOUS! She had a really cool two-strand style with a headband added. We exchanged hair information and stories and even included one of the workers in the convo. He was a Caucasian man and found it fascinating that we could rock our hair all over our head and yet look professional and glamorous. It's funny how hair and a good coffee shop can bring people together.

In My ZONE

Today the weather was BEAUTIFUL! I couldn't resist the urge to soak up a little sun and thank mother nature. In Chattanooga there's plenty of walking trails and parks but my fav is Coolidge Park b/c you can walk, eat, enjoy the riverfront, clear your mind, write in your journal, and it's in route to my house :) I didn't do too much walking. I enjoyed the scenery and jotted a few things down in my journal. Here's a few pics I took:

Listening to music with my big hair :)

The riverfront is so pretty to me

Been MIA but I'm BACK!

Hey guys! I know I've been super MIA for the end of February but it was with good reasoning :) First, I've been working on my nursing school apps and making sure I have the required courses, tests taken, and money saved. So far I've applied to 2 programs, have 1 more to prepare for, and 2 exams to take. Along with that I have been working my job with these basketball and football players. I try to inspire them to want to learn especially when it's free. I mean knowledge is power, a degree shows dedication, and I wish my education would've been free. I sure as hell wouldn't blow it because of laziness! Next on the list, I've been working out 3-4 times a week and working on my eating habits. They aren't the worse but I have a WEAKNESS for chocolate and well candy in general. I started doing Zumba twice a week and LOVE IT and I've lost 5 lbs, GO ME! I have a new obsession for playing around with my hair since it's getting some length to it. When I went to Atlanta I had the chance to go to target and buy some of the infamous SHEA MOISTURE conditioner. I really like it but I love mixing it with the Cantu leave-in I was previously using. I stop putting the Eco-styler gel on my twists b/c with the Carol's Daughter stuff alone leave my hair is bouncy and super soft. I added this EQ gloss to my list of must haves because for the same price I can have a gloss, heat protectant, and frizz buster all in 1 product. I'll probably edit this post tomorrow with pics. The next important beginning in my life is the relationship with my boyfriend. We were off to a HORRIBLE start and I almost hated him but we had a loooooooong talk after Valentines Day and realized we want to make "us" work and want to put in the effort. It's been a better experience thus far and I'm even learning how to cook for couples. It's a major adjustment because I'm a "weird" eater and can have meat without sides or sides without meat and call it a meal. I also make sandwiches and eat cereal for dinner. He's a small framed guy but he suuuuuuure can eat! Well I have to get some more work done, just wanted to check in and do a little rambling *smooches*
